Emergency centres
In any emergency planning, it is essential that a structure to marshal resources and formulate decisions is already known and in place. In the event of an emergency, key facilities would immediately take control:
The Emergency Control Centre (ECC)
The Strategic Co-ordinating Centre (SCC)
Usually based at the appropriate local police HQ. Representatives from a number of local and national organisations, have responsibility for managing the situation.
The Media Briefing Centre (MBC)
Based at or near the SCC. It’s recognised that the media is the key to ensuring the public receives authoritative and co-ordinated information and advice. Our plan includes the provision of a media technical briefer to talk to the press and explain what is happening on site.
The Central Emergency Support Centre (CESC)
Based at Barnwood in Gloucestershire. Provides technical and other support to the site and also advises what countermeasures are needed to protect the public.
Environmental surveys
All round the affected site, our staff will be conducting environmental surveys. They send the results to the CESC.
