Berkeley land delicensing - A Major Industry Achievement
Eleven hectares of land at Magnox Electric (ME) Berkeley have been delicensed - the largest single area in the UK to be removed from nuclear regulation to date in one go. This follows closely on the heels of UKAEA Harwell Site, who successfully delicensed seven hectares earlier in 2006.

Highly active cells at Berkeley are successfully dismantled
Berkeley’s decommissioning team have successfully completed the Post Operational Clean Out and dismantling of high active cells suites 16 and 17, while successfully ensuring low dose uptakes to workers and zero accidents or injuries to personnel, as well as enabling over 190 tonnes of steel to be recycled for reuse.

Magnox Electric Ltd, the nuclear site management, decommissioning and clean-up specialist, has received formal consent from the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate to decommission Dungeness A power station once it ceases electrical generation at the end of 2006.

Up to seventy jobs are being created in Essex by the nuclear clean up operator Magnox Electric Ltd. The firm is looking to increase its workforce at the former power station Site at Bradwell that is preparing to be decommissioned after forty years of safe and compliant electricity generation.

Bradwell Reactor Site has been awarded the 2006 NUMEX Trophy for excellent performance achieved during its defuelling phase, beating competition from Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Sweden to lift the trophy at a ceremony held in Prague last week.

He replaces Mark Steele, who moves to the Hinkley Point A decommissioning site in Somerset. Jim has worked in the nuclear industry on construction, generating and decommissioning sites since 1978. He brings considerable experience of project management led operations and joins Magnox Electric Ltd from the NASA Plum Brook Reactor Facility, Sandusky, Ohio.
