Berkeley shares best practice
Personnel from the Winfrith Site, which is part of the Research Sites Restoration Ltd (RSRL) Site License Company (SLC) visited the Berkeley Site recently. The visit was organised to allow the sharing of decommissioning best practice between the two sites and across SLC's. Both sites are in similar stages of decommissioning. The group were particularly interested in the Berkeley reactors, which are currently being prepared to enter their safestore mode and the care and maintenance phase of their lifetimes. Presentations were also given on the plans for the management of Berkeley's Intermediate Level Waste.

Drilling down at Berkeley
Preparations for Berkeley’s intermediate level waste interim storage facility are progressing, with a £150,000 project to undertake test piling at the site. It follows landscaping work, completed in 2008, where a metre thick engineered infill was laid, providing a foundation base for a test piling rig.
