Suppliers

Magnox South Ltd manages five former nuclear power stations in various stages of defuelling and decommissioning. The diverse nature of our business is reflected in the breadth of our supply chain and the value we put on the relationships we build with our suppliers. This section will help you find what opportunities exist and how we do business with our supply chain.

Magnox South Ltd is a Site Licence Company (SLC) which holds the site licence from the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate and environmental authorisations from the Environment Agency. We have a contract to manage the five sites to exacting standards of safety and cost efficiency awarded by the site owners, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). The NDA are the Government body responsible for delivering the decommissioning programme of the UK’s civil nuclear legacy.

We have a structure in place to respond effectively to the requirements of our customer, the NDA. This structure combines dedicated procurement teams based at each site, with a commercial functional structure in which individuals are tasked with developing key procurements or functional projects across Magnox South.

NDA launches its “Consultation on NDA’s Supply Chain Strategy”
The NDA published its consultation document in September 2008. More details are available on the NDA website.

Charter for boosting relationships across the supply chain
The NDA is seeking views on a draft charter that aims to foster good working relations throughout its supply chain.

The two-page document is a simple set of principles that are important to the NDA and Site Licence Companies (SLCs), which we trust our suppliers also value and would be willing to sign up to.

The NDA and SLCs worked together to formulate the charter which arose out of the new Supply Chain Development Strategy.

During consultation for the Strategy a range of possible NDA and SLC initiatives were identified, but feedback from suppliers indicated improvements that were desirable at the Tier 2, 3 and 4 levels of the supply chain.  As NDA and the SLCs value the whole supply chain, the concept of a Supply Chain Charter was identified to help deliver the following:
  • For all levels of the supply chain to ‘be a good client’
  • To foster good working relations and
  • Improve planning and performance through all tiers of the supply chain supporting the NDA estate.
The NDA currently spends more than £2.8 billion a year, of which circa £1.3 billion enters the supply chain at a range of levels below the Site Licence Companies.

NDA’s Market Development Manger, Sam Dancy said: “We want to see a vibrant, efficient and competitive market at all levels, with better all-round communications and encouragement for smaller businesses who wish to access work in the NDA estate. The charter, once agreed, will be a key part of this, and encapsulates our aspirations to mutually beneficial relationships for every level of the supply chain.”

The ‘vision’ for the Charter is that companies show commitment to the principles by signing up and can then use the wordmark on their stationery to show that they too value the charter principles and work to them.  Signatories of the charter will also be listed on an appropriate NDA estate website.
